The European Commission’s Horizon 2020 funding programme is the largest innovation and research funding programme in Europe. Horizon 2020, which has a total programme volume of 80 billion euros, is also equipped with various programme instruments. In order to get to know the Horizon 2020 funding programme, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research is offering a series of events called “Horizon 2020 for Beginners” to all interested parties.
When and where will the event take place?
The seminar “Horizon 2020 for Beginners” will take place on four different dates. It is a one-day seminar, which takes place from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The event will be held alternately in Bonn and Berlin. The exact event dates are as follows:
- 12th March 2019 in Bonn (registration already possible)
- 07th May 2019 in Berlin (registration is expected to open on the 26th March)
- 19th September 2019 in Bonn (registration is expected to open on the 02ndJuly)
- 21st November 2019 in Berlin (registration is expected to open on the 08th October)
Who is the seminar “Horizon 2020 for Beginners” aimed at?
The event is primarily aimed at all those who are interested in the Horizon 2020 funding programme and have little or no previous knowledge of it. The seminar provides well-founded basic information on the EU programme and informs about participation opportunities. “Horizon 2020 for Beginners” is therefore particularly suitable for potential participants and those interested in participating in the funding programme.
The event is also of general interest to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The SME instrument Horizon 2020 is a special instrument for small and medium-sized enterprises within the support programme Horizon 2020. In this way, they are to be encouraged to participate more strongly in the programme.

Within the framework of the seminar, the various elementary aspects of the support programme Horizon 2020 will be conveyed. In addition to the general principles of EU research funding and the objectives, the conditions and the financial volume of Horizon 2020, the following points will be addressed:

How does participation in “Horizon 2020 for Beginners” work?
For participation in the seminar “Horizon 2020 for Beginners” registration is required. It will take place online from 08:30 a.m. on the registration date mentioned. After registration has been completed and the minimum number of participants has been reached, registration confirmations and account details for transferring the course fee will be sent out. They amount to 100 euros. The number of participants are limited. As it is primarily aimed at beginners, registrations that do not correspond to the target group can also be rejected subject to reservation.
