In the winter semester 2018/2019 the distance learning course “Patent and Innovation Protection Officer/Manager” (PATINS), whose successful completion is awarded with a university certificate, will start for the first time. The study course takes place in cooperation between Saarland University and its patent exploitation agency as well as in cooperation with the Centre for Distance Learning and Further University Education. Interdisciplinary experts in the field of patent and innovation protection impart their knowledge and well-founded expertise to participants.
What are the advantages of the PATINS distance learning course?
The distance learning course “Patent and Innovation Protection Officer/Manager” (PATINS) covers a maximum of two semesters. With the exception of a classroom event, it is structured in the form of self-studies guided by a webinar. With its short course duration and flexible e-learning methods, PATINS makes it possible to acquire the university certificate while working. The study course imparts relevant knowledge about patent and innovation protection in the fields of management, technology and law. However, it is suitable for all specialist areas and does not require any previous legal or business knowledge.
How is the course structured and what content is taught?
In general, the PATINS distance learning course comprises two semesters. After a successful completion of the first semester, the participants can call themselves “Patent and Innovation Protection Officer”, after a successful completion of the second semester even “Patent and Innovation Protection Manager”. In the first semester the following contents will be taught:
- Knowledge of the protection of technical inventions in patent and utility model law
- Knowledge of data protection and other legal IT issues
- Knowledge in the field of copyright law for the protection of creative works
- Knowledge of trademark and competition law for the protection of companies and their products
- Knowledge in the field of entrepreneurial innovation and patent management
The second semester of the Distance Learning Course on Patent and Innovation Protection Officer/Manager, on the other hand, deals primarily with the practical application of the theoretical knowledge acquired in the first semester.
