20 December 2022, Brussels / Freiburg / St. Ingbert With the help of the management consultancy DORUCON, the life science start-up Actome was able to convince in the EIC Accelerator, the European funding programme for breakthrough innovations. Actome now receives a grant of around 2.5 million euros as well as equity of 2.3 million euros from Brussels.
Actome opens new chapter in personalised medicine
Biological processes determine the well-being and health status of humans. These processes are in turn regulated by proteins (the proteome) and their biological interaction with each other (the interactome) beyond gene expression (DNA and RNA).
The challenge: Analyses and evaluations that ultimately lead to diagnostics and therapies have so far been limited to information provided by DNA and RNA analyses, which fail to identify true phenotypic differences. These can only be correctly assessed by analysing the proteome and interactome. The analysis of the proteome and the interactome is limited to individual proteins and protein-protein interaction (PPIs), offers almost no information about post-translational modifications (PTMs), and is not feasible at all on single cells.
The solution: Founded in 2017, life science start-up Actome offers the first solution to deliver ultra-high sensitivity proteomic and interactomic data in single cell analysis. These enable the precise quantification and functional characterisation of proteins and their interactions in molecular biology research, enabling breakthrough innovations in personalised medicine.

From prototype to market entry with the EIC Accelerator
The European funding programme EIC Accelerator is one of the most demanding and competitive innovation funding programmes in Europe. The target group is deep tech start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises that can disruptively change the European market with disruptive innovations. The Actome team was accompanied by DORUCON from the submission of an outline, through the full application to the pitch interview. The cooperation has now culminated in success before the Brussels jury of experts.
